A sneaky peak

Sunday, July 9 2006

A flat in our block is up for sale and has a Sunday viewing. After looking on the website, we realised that it was a corner flat as ours.

We did the “we are looking for a 2nd flat as an investment” talk (=lie) and got an appointment to see the flat. Of course what we wanted was a sneaky peak and compared it to our flat. It was great fun to go around have a look and go “hmmmm”, “oh” :)

Oh come – don’t you like to see how your neighbor place? Well, I did

Firstly, I hope that they will sell the flat for the price that are asking for. As it turned out, they bought their flats 2 months before us and paid £4k less.

Secondly, our flat is in a much better condition and has added extras that the other flat doesn’t have. Like better floor planning which gives more open space, wooden floor, under-floor heating, double glazing, a kitchen and not as one part of the living room.

One of the most important things before we move to SF is get our flat ready for renting out. It is now an investment more then a home.

I wish…

Yesterday

Saturday, July 8 2006

I am glad that yesterday went well. 7 July and 11 March (Madrid bombing) are two vibrant dates for the wrong reason. Together with the 11 September, those are the days when you can recount what you did at set times that date.

The official line was 2 minutes silence at noon. I spoke to a co-worker and said, I think we should observe it outside the office as we did last year. It openly shows moral support and defiance at the same time. He and I went down to the Ground floor and the Receptionist said over the pager that everyone that wants to stand out side the office should make their way down. I was proud to see that most of my co-workers came and stood outside in the drizzle. I was even more proud to see that people in the other offices did the same.

London in its quiet way is a fantastic and diverse city. We can be rude as hell to each other on a normal day but on a day like 7 July we will help each other as much as we can.

I was however very pissed off with my line manager cos he thought all of this “2 minutes” was bullshit and made his opinion very clear in our office. “We don’t do this for any other train accident”. Talk about not getting it.

I walk past Aldgate station on my way home, a new routine I started after the bombings, and yesterday I lay down flowers, read the cards and thought about those unfortunate 52 commuters that lost their live. May they rest in peace.

Leaving London …

Wednesday, July 5 2006

… in a few months time. We are going to move to San Francisco, if everything goes as planned.

I will defiantly miss London and I think we will move back here one day. It is a truly great city and feels more like home then the city I was born in.

A new adventure starts and it is really exciting. We have talked about it for a while. One of the reasons we went to SF in March this year was to explore the opportunities out there. SF is an interesting city and actually has a European feel to it which will no doubt help the transition.

I did the phone calls today to my step-dad and my aunt to tell them the news. I will move further away from them but I think they understood why I am doing this.

I have not said anything at work yet, that will be done when it suits me.

The To Do list is already long and I guess it will be even longer at first. The main thing is to sort out bits and pieces in the flat and then get it rented out. I am thinking of contacting the bigger bank in the City so see if they are interested to let the flat. Last option is the Estate agents and letting the flat out via them.

There is going to be helluv a lot of work and organizing to be done but it is achievable.

Trying not to

Sunday, July 2 2006

I am trying not to think about what it would be like on the Tube this coming Friday morning. 7 July, a year on from the tube bombing.

I was on the Tube system when it happened, just outside Liverpool St and the train was stopped unusual hard. We were told there were problems with the power and that the station was closed. The next station, Bank was also closed and the tube travelers got unsettled cos of two major tube stations being closed is very very unusual.

As turned out, we were the lucky one since the Central Line was not targeted by the terrorists.

I will, of course, go the tube on Friday morning. I have to and I think that everyone else should do the same. If you don’t, then the terrorist wins by scaring you to submit to their terror.

With no doubt, the media will be the megaphone for the terrorists and pump up the fear factor. When will the media understand that they are doing exactly what the terrorist wants them to? The media is spreading and emphasizing the terrorist message. Shame on you!

I have altered a few routines, I always carry a bottle of Evian & a small fan plus I always travel in comfortable shoes, just in case I have to do the walk in the tunnels. I normally walk home from work, because I can and because the tube is so damn hot in the afternoon. But I did start with this after the bombings.

Distracted

Saturday, July 1 2006

I have been distracted from blogging for a couple of reasons;

Battlestar Galatica.
I am getting my SciFi fix by watching this show. I have downloaded season two and my next episodes is when Commander whathisname has send out the marines to get back two of his men from his commanding officer … anyway see for yourselves. I cant wait. I have so pleased for our new & improved internet connection cos these episodes came down so so quickly.

The weather.
The Sun is blessing us with her present in abundances and it is great. Mind you, that has not stopped me from using my new laptop. BF wanted me off the computer(s) at home so he can do stuff to them without interupting my use of them. It is really cool, sitting in bed watch Battlestar Galatica or surfing via wifi. It took him about 7-9 month of “gentle & constant” pushing to get me a laptop. I didn’t/don’t like the keyboard on laptops.

News.
There is one mayor thing that is going in my life on but I have not wanted to blog about it yet. It is major thing if it happens so maybe more later. Otherwise, not much has been going on.
